“We had to stay sharp,” Davidson said. “We were winning 18-0 and 13.

“After all the games we played against the midgets, personally I had no doubts when we got that second goal we were going to win. That’s because of all the things we’ve been through and all the things we’ve done.”

The victory marked an Olympic three-peat for Canada, which also won in 2002 and 2006. “We didn’t have a lot of trust on that team,” Davidson said. “All those games built that trust. We could see that.”

Tragedy Start of Winter Olympics 2010

February 14th, 2010 by Lay

IOC president Jacques Rogge announced the death of 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili, who crashed at speeds of more than 90mph on one of the most dangerous sections of the luge run that has previously been criticised for its extreme design.

Late on Friday night the Georgia team was considering whether to withdraw from the Winter Olympics as a mark of respect for their colleague.

“It happened in front of me yesterday,” said Shiva Kannan Palan Keshavan of India. “I’ve never seen anything like it before. I was telling myself not to believe it. It’s fresh in our hearts today. We can’t compete with the same joy.”
